Persuasive Letter Model

First Steps to Writing an Organized Persuasive Letter

Dear Ms. Pietri,
I would like for us to have less homework.  One reason for less homework is that when we get home from school, we have other things to do, like our chores.  Another reason is that we work hard during the day, so we need to rest our brains at home so it will be ready to learn again the next day.  Last reason is because I want to get more sleep.  When I get home, I only have time to do my homework and eat dinner.  If we didn’t have homework, we could sleep earlier.  If you make the teachers stop giving us so much homework, I promise to work harder during the day .  For these reasons, please give us less homework.
                                                Sincerely,
                                                Matthew

  • senses (how it tastes or smells or sounds) if applicable

Subject Verb Agreement continued 1/25/13

Let's review...

When you are talking about one subject, your verb has a -s or -es at the end.
When you are talking about 2 or more subjects, your verb does not change.

A cat likes napping.
Dogs like running.

Mary loves her mom.
Her mom and dad love her, too.

You try...
1. Helen (eat/eats) rice everyday.
2. The markers (smell/smells) bad.
3. He (write/writes) with his left hand.

1/22/13 Subject-Verb

Students will be able to use the correct subject-verb agreement.

Verbs in the present tense have two forms.
When the subject is singular, add -s or -es to the verb.
When the subject is plural, do not add -s or -es to the verb.

For example:
The boy climbs a mountain.       The boys climb a mountain.
Chris likes art class.                    Chris and John like art class.
She eats pizza every Friday.       They eat pizza every Friday.

Let's do these together!

1. The scouts (start/starts) their hike.
2. A hill (rise/rises) sharply.
3. They (struggle/struggles) over the rocks.
4. The hot sun (beat/beats) down on them.
5. He (get/gets) to the top first.

Now, on your own, you are going to listen to a passage about animals that have parachutes built into their bodies.  Then you will answer some comprehension questions about the passage, as well as find the correct subject-verb agreement.

1. Animals With Parachutes
2. Answer

When you are finished, please finish the following sentences:
1. The students...
2. My mom...
