Subject Verb Agreement continued 1/25/13

Let's review...

When you are talking about one subject, your verb has a -s or -es at the end.
When you are talking about 2 or more subjects, your verb does not change.

A cat likes napping.
Dogs like running.

Mary loves her mom.
Her mom and dad love her, too.

You try...
1. Helen (eat/eats) rice everyday.
2. The markers (smell/smells) bad.
3. He (write/writes) with his left hand.

1/22/13 Subject-Verb

Students will be able to use the correct subject-verb agreement.

Verbs in the present tense have two forms.
When the subject is singular, add -s or -es to the verb.
When the subject is plural, do not add -s or -es to the verb.

For example:
The boy climbs a mountain.       The boys climb a mountain.
Chris likes art class.                    Chris and John like art class.
She eats pizza every Friday.       They eat pizza every Friday.

Let's do these together!

1. The scouts (start/starts) their hike.
2. A hill (rise/rises) sharply.
3. They (struggle/struggles) over the rocks.
4. The hot sun (beat/beats) down on them.
5. He (get/gets) to the top first.

Now, on your own, you are going to listen to a passage about animals that have parachutes built into their bodies.  Then you will answer some comprehension questions about the passage, as well as find the correct subject-verb agreement.

1. Animals With Parachutes
2. Answer

When you are finished, please finish the following sentences:
1. The students...
2. My mom...
